The wind-shield is adjustable and below the wind-shield sits a magnum 50mm USD fork and radial Brembo callipers. The Excel wheels is a 19inch front and a 17inch rear. Scoop: First real Moto Guzzi Stelvio pictures!

Directly from the Moto Guzzi dealers convention in Berlin that happened on Friday February 23 we present the real Stelvio for the very first time! The new big double headlight and adjustable windscreen is all new. A brand new big capacity fuel tank is in place as well as a single sided swingarm/driveshaft and spoked wheels. Just like the BMW GS then, but Moto Guzzi have told us that the emphasis is on handling on road, but that the new Stelvio can tackle some offroad too. With the new wheels, frame, longer suspension action (triple clamped USD fork), engine protection up front and what looks to be adjustable seat height the new Stelvio looks to be aimed more at all terrain than the new Triumph Tiger 1050 and Ducati Multistrada 1100.

The name Stelvio is taken from an Italian alpine pass and Moto Guzzi have now confirmed that the name Stelvio indeed will find its way onto the fairing sides of the new bike. Moto Guzzi is in 2008 aiming at what my factory insider claims is an conservative estimate of an 4-5000 unit increase in production. That is a whopping 50% increase from the 2006 figures of 10.000 units. The Stelvio 850 and Stelvio 1200 will according to Moto Guzzi be instrumental in that growth. When asked whether Moto Guzzi has utilized its more offroad experienced sister company Aprilia my Moto Guzzi spokesperson told me that the Stelvio project is 100% Mandello. Moto Guzzi openly states that they want to grab market shares from BMW and with the Stelvio the GS in particular. The Stelvio will get spoked wheels and long suspension, but not as extreme as the GS or a KTM. Our factory insider keeps mentioning the 07 Triumph Tiger 1050 as a benchmark for the styling, but the end product will be very Italian and different from other adventure tourers. For once I have been told that the new motorcycle will share very few parts from the current Breva or Griso line-up. Stelvio 850 will feature the 4 valve horizontal twin from Griso/Breva and the 1200 the all new powerful 8-valve engine developed for the 1200 Sport. But the engines seems to be the only part the Stelvio will share with its siblings however hard it is to believe. Moto Guzzi have confirmed once again that an all new frame has been developed for the Stelvio. This shows how serious Moto Guzzi are about their first ever Adventure bike. To quote my factory insider: "The Stelvio will be absolutely important. The most important Moto Guzzi in modern times." Moto Guzzi have planned to do a ride launch of the new bike in the last week of October or the first in November. The bike will be on show to the public for the first time at the 2007 EICMA show in Milan, also in November.

2008 Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 & 850

The Stelvio or Adventure bike project is a 100% go Moto Guzzi exclusively confirmed to us. Moto Guzzi will not only launch one new Adventure bike, but two. One 850 with the 2 Valve engine from the Breva and one 1200 with the new 8 Valve V-twin engine. Main changes from any current Moto Guzzi motorcycle is the new handling characteristics required for an Adventure touring bike. This involves a brand new frame. My Moto Guzzi insider told me that the new "offroad" bikes will be very different from the BMW GS and Triumph Tiger 1050 (those two are already quite different...), but more Tiger than GS. That translates to a more road biased Adventure bike than the benchmark GS. Just like the ones that we have made. By Tor Sagen/CG by: Robert O'Brien
