CO2 and Motorcycles-From carbon fibre comes carbon dioxide
CO2 and global warming is an enormous subject. More than a year ago I was challenged by my Norwegian colleagues Olsson/Kvadsheim to write about CO2 and motorcycles. Phew, what a daunting task and in this article I am only barely scratching the surface. I asked all the motorcycle manufacturers for their input.
Words/research: Tor Sagen Just how dangerous do you think CO2 is? To give you one example; in 1986 CO2 leaked out of Lake Nyos in Cameroon caused by either a landslide or volcanic activity. 1.6 million tonnes of CO2 was suddenly released from the deep lake suffocating 1.700 people and more than 3.500 animals in one fell swoop. You wouldn’t last long if you took some deep breaths from your motorcycles exhaust either even with a catalyser. The greenhouse effect is extremely complex and not what a lot of people think it is. A greenhouse is heated up by infrared rays coming through the windows, heating the air already there. The greenhouse effect is very different involving infrared radiation coming through the atmosphere and the way it leaves and how some is absorbed and some not. That’s not what this article is about, but I thought I should mention it. Much more coming....
