Claudio Castiglioni-Master of Puppets

"Motorcycles make us dream. They have different colours, they have different sounds. They have shapes that sometimes show what inspired their designers.  Sometimes these creations are real works of art that turn the designer into an artist."

Claudio Castiglioni

We literally bumped into Casti’ as they call him in Italy at the EICMA international motorcycle show in Milan. Together with Massimo Tamburino, Castiglioni have helped to create the worlds perhaps most iconic motorcycle models, Ducati 916 and MV Agusta F4. The Castiglioni brothers (Claudio and Gianfranco) own Cagiva. Cagiva (Ca=Castiglioni Gi=Giovanni Va=Varese) that once owned both Ducati, Moto Morini, Husqvarna, MV Agusta and Cagiva at the same time. They sold Ducati and Moto Morini in 1996 just before re-launching MV Agusta with Tamburini’s F4 750.

Castiglioni attended the EICMA show for several reasons. One of them was to hand over Brutale 910R Italia models to the Italian Football word cup champions and the other because his very own F4 CC 200bhp superbike was launched. CC stands for Claudio Castiglioni. Claudio had a dream one night (much like in the top quote I guess) and the F4 CC is the result. It’s only 100.000 Euro and you get a watch and a leather jacket with it too! We got a quick quote from Castiglioni and son.

TS: Tell us about your dream, how did it all happen?

“Well, I wanted to make a bike for myself. The F4 was already so beautiful, and we thought hard about what more could be done. F4 CC 1080 is that dream comes true.”

I would have wanted to ask Casti’ more questions such as what his plans are with Cagiva and whether the MV Agusta range will get an expansion soon. Whether he have got any other old Italian brand he would like to acquire and build up. But Castiglioni is a very, very popular man in Italy so we took what we could get which was one quote and a photo session.
