2007 Harley-Davidson CVO FXSTSSE Screamin' Eagle Softail Springer

2007 Harley-Davidson CVO FXSTSSE Screamin’ Eagle Softail Springer-Rolling gold from Harley-Davidson

Last year the most noteworthy CVO model from Harley was the CVO Fat Boy. In 2007 the Softail Springer has received the factory custom treatment. Can’t be bothered to customise your own Harley and have cash to spare? Then a Harley CVO is for you!

CVO stands for Custom Vehicle Operations. The Harley-Davidson CVO branch takes different models from the extensive model program each year and gives them something special-Takes them further as Harley-Davidson say.

The first step is to remove the standard Twin Cam 96 (1584cc) engine and replace it with a Twin Cam 110 (1800cc). Then add some Screamin’ Eagle tuning parts, such as Chrome shotgun slash down mufflers, Revolver wheels/brake disc/sprocket, more chrome than you can imagine, a flash paintjob (colour coordinated on the frame and swingarm) and a 200mm rear tyre.

The attention to detail and the build quality is unsurpassed and CVO models should be quite collectable as well. I felt quite special myself riding the CVO Springer down Main road in Daytona Beach. I knew I was on a winner in this place where hardly any motorcycle is left untouched.

After riding almost all the new Big Twins and Sportsters it was refreshing to sample the 110. The CVO Springer features arm wrenching torque from very low rpm (142Nm max @ 3.000rpm) and effortless cruising in higher gears (6th overdrive). The 1800cc air-cooled V-twin is an absolute beauty both to ride and aesthetically. Effortlessly it chugs along like an old friend underneath me and I twist the customised throttle grip a bit further towards me.

-First along the Atlantic coast and then west inlands where I am suddenly surrounded by palms and swamps typical for the Everglades. This contrast is what makes Florida great whilst riding this rolling gold from Harley-Davidson. The huge 200mm rear tyre protests a little when we suddenly enter the first hair-bend corner I have seen in a long time. But the CVO Springer still works and hopefully some of the CVO’s Harley sell will get some mileage on them rather than just posing time in front of the garage.

When that has been said, there are not many other two-wheeled vehicles I’d rather pose on than a Harley-Davidson CVO. It’s made for that purpose more so than any other Harley. So we hit Main Street on it and right here, right now there’s no other vehicle in front of me or at the back I’d rather be on. Perfect for Main Street cruising and not a few bikers were impressed by the Golden Harley I was on this night.

The Softail Springer is one of my personal favourites when it comes down to looks and the CVO is just more of everything. If there’s one Harley-Davidson that I would ever consider buying to collect, this would be it! The Springer fork is quite vulnerable to rust, but I still love the retro looks. For the ride quality the Springer makes for a different ride than you might be used to and the same goes for the braking. But just look at that paint job, all that chrome, wheels and exhaust. -Got to give it to Harley for this one.

Bling, bling, bling!
