Yamaha

R1

Thorough update of the most handsome Japanese superbike. New 16 valve in-line four engine with chip controlled intake and throttle. Brand new Deltabox frame, newly designed hybrid asymmetric swingarm, slipper clutch, better suspension, six pot radial brake calipers and new aerodynamic front. 180bhp (189 claimed with ram-air) @ 12.500rpm and 112.7Nm @ 10.000rpm. Seat height 835mm and dry weight: 177kg

MT-01

MT-01 stays much the same, but gets the same brakes as the new 2007 R1.

TDM 900

Will new colours keep the ageing parallel twin competitive against the new Triumph Tiger 1050 and Ducati Multistrada 1100?

FZ6 S2

98 bhp @ 12.000rpm, high spec aluminium swingarm, remapped fuel injection, new seat and FZ1-type instruments.

FZ6S S2

XVS 1300

XJR 1300

New fuel injection, increased exhaust efficiency, new Ohlins twin shocks and sportier riding position.

FZ1 fully faired

R6

XT660X

Suzuki

B-King

1300cc Hayabusa engine and outrageous styling.

GSX-R1000

Suzuki seem to have made it policy to not provide performance figures until later. Probably to get the extra press ahead of the launch at the dealerships. The new GSX-R 1000 features power control in three steps through the three way ECU. Seat height is 810mm and dry weight a slim 172kg.

Bandit 1250 & S

New water cooled engines keeps the Bandit fresh. Also for the 650.

Burgman 200

GSX-R600/750

GSX1300R Hayabusa

Kawasaki

ZX-6R

Developed by a former 125 GP rider to mix high end supersport racing performance with GP-style handling. Completely new engine for the first time in 10 years. 13.9:1 compression ratio tells the story of a very highly tuned 599cc engine. Kawasaki claims a lot without giving any performance figures, but expect R6 type rev ceiling, but with more midrange to play with. Kawasaki revealed that the new ZX-6R is the most aerodynamic Ninja ever.

Z1000

Same 125bhp engine tuned for more midrange torque than previously. New aluminium chassis is the most significant upgrade.

BMW

K 1200 R Sport

Same as the K 1200 R, but with a half R 1200 S front cowling. 163bhp can be applied more freely for longer...?

G 650 X Moto

BMW wants the new G650X series to attract more young riders to the brand and then grow old with them. The new singles produce 53bhp and 60Nm whilst the new aluminium chassis keeps the weight very low. Claimed dry weight is between 144-148kg depending on which of the three you fancy.

G 650 X Challenge

G 650 X Country

HP2 Megamoto

BMW just made the HP2 much more accessible to alot more people. This should be one for the sports bike owner that wants something different without sacrificing big bike torque whilst still having more than 100bhp available to play with. Competes with KTM 950 SM R and Ducati Hypermotard.

Honda

2007 CB600 Hornet (599)

As predicted Honda launched a brand new CB600 Hornet (599 in the US). The new motorcycle gets the 2007 CBR600RR engine in modified form.

CBR125R

New fairing on the CBR125R with Fireblade headlights.

CBR600RR

118bhp and 155kg.

Pre-INTERMOT updates

Back after attending a long fly-away world launch. From the Victory launch we learned that Victory is well advanced in planning its forthcoming luxury tourer. It will get stereo, luxurious seats, both for the passenger and rider, groundbreaking American design that according to Victory should last 10-15 years-in effect three times as long as Victory has been in serious business, expect Gold Wing 'ish proportions, a big thumping V-twin engine of at least 100c.i making it the most ambitious Victory project ever. You will get pictures in December and we will ride the new tourer in April or March next year. One for the calendar. Victory will be present in Intermot, but for the big news at Intermot we'll have to look over to Japan first.

Honda have already launched pictures of the new CBR600RR, new colours on existing models and the 2007 cruiser range. We expect both a new Hornet (599) and Pan European plus much more. We will attend Honda's pre-event press conference in Cologne on Monday 9th October.

Yamaha revealed more than they wanted we think last week where we got pictures of the new R1, MT-01 and new colours before they had made us sign any embargoes. But we expect even more new stuff from Yamaha to be shown on Tuesday 10th at the Intermot exhibition in Germany. Yamaha will almost certainly show us the production ready version of the new brute V-max in EICMA later this autumn in Italy.

Suzuki showed us their hand in Paris last month with a new and improved GSX-R1000, new water-cooled Bandits and the bad ass B-king with Hayabusa engine. Suzuki surprised us by not showing a new Hayabusa yet. We know why: The new Hayabusa was not significantly more powerful and did not out-accelerate the ZZR1400 (ZX14) significantly enough! So the version Suzuki have already developed is both more powerful and accelerates better on the drag strip, but not enough according to Suzuki insiders. The version we are talking about still features the 1300 engine, but now we have more faith in the 1400cc engine than ever! June 2008 is the month you will see the new Hayabusa with a late summer availability from showrooms. According to our sources that have seen a clip of the bike it features mild references to the latest generation GSXR's.

Kawasaki have shown the 2007 ZX-6R, Z1000, 1400 GTR and many more interesting new models. Perhaps even more interesting than the other Japanese manufacturers this year. Kawasaki will hold a special VIP press conference on the 10th outside of the Exhibition halls in Cologne and we will be there of course.

Euro brands such as BMW, Triumph and Ducati will show new bikes in Intermot, but might save something for later events in Birmingham UK and Milan in Italy. We will be there as well so that you won't miss a thing! Finally, as we started with Victory in this article we will end with THE motor company. You might think that new 96c.i engines and special Night Rod's was more than enough from Milwaukee in one year, but as a matter of fact Harley-Davidson have not shown us all yet. They have kept one or two significant new models secret for the INTERMOT. We have heard it will be a new XR or a Roadster (or both). The XR could well be the Scrambler 883 we have been talking about as after all it's the 50th anniversary for the Sportster this year. Inside information about V-rod engines in new chassis configurations have also been made available to us. We will attend the pre-event VIP press conference in Cologne the 9th of October. Next week will be huge in terms of news so make sure you take the day off work and sit down in front of the computer with a cold beer and some peanuts. There is no better entertainment than getting excited about new models and next Monday and Tuesday are the two biggest days this year. TS
