EICMA 2005 international motorcycle exhibition in Milan, Italy. Show webpage. Also see the link to the Paris, Tokyo and Birmingham shows. Aprilia's special pre-event press conference  See the Milan babes here. All pictures from EICMA 2005 taken between 14/11-16/11. All photography copyright Tor Sagen. Last updated 03/12/05 with bikes from Terra Modena, Italjet, Mondial, Honda and more Ducati Hypermotard pictures.

Raptors & Rockets top 5 new designs from the EICMA 2005:

1.Bimota Delirio

2.Ducati Hypermotard (this won the official design award)

3.Aprilia RS 125

4.Benelli Tre-K

5.BMW R 1200 S (specially in red/white with a lady on it)

For 2005 Milan has got an amazing new exhibition & conference centre in the Rho area of Milan. The exhibition centre is gigantic and 63.785sqm was available to 1560 different exhibitors from 35 countries. This made sure EICMA 2005 could truthfully be called the world's largest international motorcycle show. Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's Prime minister, made a speech to open the 2005 show.

2 hp guarding Berlusconi. Security was tight and caused problems for the press since the conference centre is in the same building as the press office. We were refused access whilst Berlusconi had lunch. When he held his speech it was no problem to get close and take pictures.

Aprilia

RS 125

The new RS 125 is irresistible for all age groups. It looks even better than the RSV! Very sharp.

Leo Francesco Mercanti, the Aprilia brand director, guided the press through the three new sports models from Aprilia.

2006 RSV 1000 R

You will find the techno babble under the news section and under Raptorama after we have tested the bike. What we would like is the RS 125 paintjob on the RSV please.

Video from the presentation

2006 RSV 1000 R Factory

Those OZ wheels specially produced for Aprilia makes sure the Factory stays exclusive. Top suspension as always.

Benelli

Tornado 1130

Externally this bike has only received new graphics. But what a difference those graphics has made to the overall look. But it is inside the big changes has occurred.  Read the details under the news section and in Raptorama after our test some time next year.

Tre-K

Benelli's answer to the sports tourer, but probably very similar to TNT which makes for a fun and fast bike. This bike was Adrian Morton's last design for Benelli before he left for a job under Tamburini in CRC. Tre-K has got the same paint-scheme as the TNT Titanium, but will be available in two additional colours where one of them will be the same green as the standard TNT.

Bimota

Delirio DB6 1000

Ducati Bimota number 6 features the 1000 DS engine that fits perfect in a naked chassis. Made for wheelies and fun.

Sergio Robbiano next to his Delirious creation. Bimota Delirium were our favourite from the show.

BMW

R 1200 S

I always liked the R1100S, but was never sure whether I wanted one. This one feels different. Park it outside your house and people will think you're the local barber.

F 800 S

Parallel twin is a configuration we know from Yamaha TRX 850 and MZ 1000. Surely BMW are not copycatting their brothers in East Germany? Maybe BMW should help them out a bit and use the MZ 1000 engine in stead of Rotax for a F 1000S? Anyway, the F 800 S looks fun.

F 800 ST

being BMW there had to be a touring version for this engine and chassis as well and ST is it.

K 1200 GT

The 1200S engine is the obvious choice for a Grand Tourismus.

Cagiva

Cagiva had a nice stand, but with no content other than Raptor's in hideous green and a new race 125. Time to let CRC have a look at the whole range and maybe launch a new Raptor 1000?

Mito SP525

Cagiva C494

Cagiva Mito 125

New decals add to the "racing" heritage.

Cagiva Raptor 650 i.e.

Please tell us Tamburini did not choose this colour? That would have been  a disillusion.

Derbi

Mulhacen 659

Never heard of Derbi? They are a Spanish firm owned by the Italian Piaggio group. Derbi are big on 50cc-125cc sportsbikes and also compete in the 125GP. Mulhacen is a Scrambler motorbike made for lazy fun.

Ducati

Hypermotard

Pierre strikes back! Forget about the Multistrada and 999. This will unite the Ducatisti again. Just wait. Ducati has underestimated this bike and only launched it as a concept bike. Expect to see it in production very soon is latest from our Ducati insiders. Final decision before the end of the year and it can only go one way.

950 V2 Desert Storm

A shame about the finish on these Swedish offroad machines. V2 750 Dirt-Track is nicer.

MX 450

Will it conquer the MX 1 class?

750 V2 Dirt-Track

Stylish Flat-tracker, but is Europe ready for a very US Flat-Tracker yet?

V2 950 Outback/Motard

Finish a bit poor, but if you keep them off-road it doesn't really matter does it?

Italjet

Grifon and Bazooka

KTM

Adventure 990

New 999cc engine, but no more nothing due to EURO 3. Or is it better? We will soon ride it and this is one travel enduro that can off-road as well.

Adventure 990 S Dakar

Super Enduro 950 R

The most macho KTM ever built. Let's see if it can eat HP2's or not.

Shhh, the beast is sleeping. 950 R Super Enduro

Moto Guzzi

Norge 1200

Good old Norge is my home country. Norge means Norway in Norwegian. Norge might not sound so cool in English, but don't mess with Norge, once we were Vikings and Moto Guzzi knows best. That's that. Some nice lines on Moto Guzzi's new GT.

California Vintage

California Classic

Classic has got the Breva 1100 update in the engine department, and just look at that beautiful red petrol tank.

Nice bike that will probably never leave the exhibition floors... Built to special order.

9 1/2

The only thing I can think of when 9 1/2 is mentioned is that silly erotic film with Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke. Any better? Same 105bhp 1200cc V-twin as in Corsaro.

Corsaro 1200

F4 1000 Senna

There was nothing we could do to get the babes of the Senna so we just cut them off in Photoshop. See the whole picture under the bikebabe link.

Brutale 910 R

Not enough with the Brutale 910, here's the R as well with more of everything.

Brutale Mamba

There's a black mamba painted on the front mudguard and petrol tank. So it's a Mamba then.

Brutale 910 Starfighter

Carbon fibre and aeronautical technology. MV Agusta has already designed the Storm trooper helmet to go with the bike, in carbon fibre.

F4 1000 Corse

Yet another special from MV Agusta Corse, they are awfully good-looking, but something new maybe soon?

Suzuki

Burgman 400

Were we supposed to pay attention to the new Burgman 400 after Delirio, Hypermotard, RS 125, R 1200 S and the other new European bikes?  Milan 2005 was simply to big for one man in one and a half day. The Valenti Suzuki rally bike was one of the bikes I am not really too sure about. It certainly did not win any design price.

You'll find Suzuki's new bikes here and here.

Yamaha

From Kenny Roberts, Stephan Peterhansel to Valentino Rossi shows Yamaha's racing pedigree. There were also two new concept bikes based on the MT-03 from Yamaha. They are under the news section.

You'll find Yamaha's new bikes here and here.

Honda

Honda showed DN-01 and CBR600RR Movistar replica from Tokyo. See some better shots of it and other Honda's here.

Effeeffe racing specials

I originally planned to visit many more special bike builders in Milan, but the shear size of everything and all the new bikes made it impossible to visit more stands. So enjoy these EffeEffe racing bikes that were lucky to be included since I found them the 14th, the day before press day. They are based on Yamaha R1, Kawasaki ZX-10R and Suzuki GSX-R. Check out the Barry Sheen paintjob and Yamaha 50th on the streetfighter. TS

Mood Milan

Now that you've checked out the new bikes it's time to give the ladies some attention. Link.

From EICMA 2005: "The 63rd International Motorcycle Exhibition will be the biggest Motorcycle Fair in the world. The six Halls of the new Milan Fair which had initially been dedicated to the exhibition were not enough, so we decided to open one more Hall in order to welcome more exhibitors. The  exhibition however is not only highly anticipated due to its large scale but because it is characterised by some important news.

The biggest news is of course the transfer to the new Milan Exhibition Centre : high functionality and impressive, built in record time, strategically positioned, nearby Milan, at the confluence of the main highways, few kilometres from Malpensa International Airport, and easily reached by the underground (red line n°1) which provides a direct link to the city centre.

The second news concern the date : for the last 15 years, the Motorcycle Exhibition was held in September whereas it will now be in November because many exhibitors had problems to organise a fair during the peak selling season in September. Furthermore in November the international racing season ends which ensures a large number of well known protagonists from both the Mondial and the MotoGP can participate.

The third news is that ANCMA has thought to make the International Motorcycle Show in Milan an annual event. Historically the International Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan was held every 2nd year alternating with the German Motorcycle Show in Cologne / Munich, but as nearly half of the visitors to the German Motorcycle Show were from Italy, it has been decided, without any presumption, to make Milan “the” annual reference for the global motorcycle industry.

The new Exhibition Centre offers in addition the possibility to use large outdoor areas (about 60.000 sqm). This has allowed us to organise a significant number of high quality satellite events, sportive and impressive, that will be called “MotoLive”, name taken from the main sponsor “Vodafone MotoLive”.

A Motorcycle Exhibition that nobody can miss. The only one in the world where it would be possible to see everything : motorbikes, scooters, prototypes, components, clothing, accessories, ideas and shows.

The International Motorcycle Exhibition will be held in Fiera Milano – Nuovo Quartiere Rho- from November 15th to 20th  (the first two days are opened only to operators and press).

Milan,  12th October 2005"
